Research on Molly Law

Molly Low is a photographer who gets her inspiration for her own work from Jim Goldberg’s work called Rich and Poor.  In a way, I think she produces a similar style of work as Jim’s, sharing similarity in layout of the work. Most of all, she also gets her subjects to write comments on their own personal experience. Similar to Jim, she captures her subjects in their home environment, the place where the subject is and can be themeselves. The project is based on the community called La Jolla which is a place in San Diego. The project by Molly Low is called Portraits of Black San Diegans. The comments that are wrote by the subjects are their feelings about the property tax increases and fears of rezoning that could lead to a decline in property value. This causes many black families to sell their La Jolla homes.
